IN MY HUMBLE OPINION there are some good designs and not so good designs. I've taken some designs that have a lot to be desired and redesigned them. Enjoy.

PEPSI changed its logo in 2008. According to Pepsi "The new logo is a white band in the middle of Pepsi's circle that loosely forms a series of smiles: A smile will characterize brand Pepsi, while a grin is used for Diet Pepsi and a laugh is used for Pepsi Max." SMILE?? GRIN? LAUGH?! Is that what that is suppose to be? Looks more like a sail. IMHO I thought PEPSI is all about vibrancy, pep and spark of energy. My interpretation: a spark with alternating red/blue echo energy waves has a very Americana feel to it. Now that I read and know the concept behind the the new Pepsi logo I do admit I first smile, grin and laugh my head off.

It seems the PEBBLE BEACH PRO-AM logo has not changed since Bing Crosby played. It's so outdated that the Cypress tree has gone black and the flag is a pennant. Can't remember when a flag was a pennant. Must be from the Crosby days. My interpretation would have more star quality to it because, after all, the fans come out to see Bill Murray, Justin Timberlake and Samuel L. Jackson swing away. If you see closely you know which ball was struck by the pro and which ball was struck my the amateur. The famous Cypress tree is now green and healthy and the flag is a legitimate square shaped flag and the overall shape of the design is a circle, just like a golf ball. The sky is blue, the fairway is lush and the green is gold not green— yes, I'm using my mulligan— chalk this one up under creative license. I'm sure Carl Spackler, Mr. SexyBack or Mace Windu won't mind because they prefer standing on a star instead of whatever that blob of a green that is currently on the existing logo.

STANLEY'S SPORTS BAR in the Shark Ice Center. Classic design faux pas, excuse my French-Canadian. Bad colors, bad composition, bad everything. No imagination or creativity. Why not use the Shark's color, teal, and have Lord Stanley drink out of the Stanley Cup? And give Ol' Stan a shiner because he doesn't take any gruff from any ducks, kings and especially that Canuck Justin Bieber. Cheers! Here's to a better design.

GORDON BIERSCH brewed in San Jose, CA. Every time I purchase my case I enjoy the great brew. However the label so busy with painting of fields of wheat and German village and barrels and... etc., etc. Such visuals belong in a museum not on a bottle of Marzen. It just needs to be simplified. The flavor of the beer should be prominent (i.e, HEFEWEIZEN, MARZEN, CZECH STYLE PILSNER). The oval shape is all too common from Heineken to Stella to Beck's. Create a shape with bold hard edge lines and make it your own, man. GB's been around for 27 years making it a classic. Here's to a San Jose classic! Prost!

The SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS have moved south to Santa Clara. The 38.3 miles (62 km) is the farthest distance of any NFL stadium from its team's home city (i.e., the New York Giants and Jets play in New Jersey only six miles away). In an unprecedented move, I designed the helmet with the S.F. on one side of the helmet and 49 on the other. The face mask is red (reinforcing the red/gold palette and eliminating the gray face mask the Forty Niners currently use) pick axes give the design a historical reference. This also give the Forty Niners two designs, increasing revenue for ancillary marketing items. The word mark is has no multiple trims. It is now simple and easy to read.
